The First Cosmic Wall Platter, 2015, Jewel Gallery Platter, Planetary Nebula, Roughly 17" diameter by 2.5" tall (SK625)

$12,500.00

This was the first "Cosmic Wall Platter" I created in 2015, during my "Cosmic Mug Kickstarter" that raised $34,099 in one month, validating the Cosmic Mug idea that eventually became cosmicmugs.com. The platter currently hangs in our "Jewel Gallery" of our best pottery.

These large wall platters are sculptural. They would make for gorgeous table centerpieces, but are crafted with a foot and bottom to fit flat on a wall perfectly. Tension builds when seeing thick, heavy clay floating on the wall.

This blue Cosmic Wall Platter is inspired by a firestorm of nebula gases captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. I think of this as an abstract painting. Real images of deep space galaxy cloud clusters and nebulae inspire my abstract glaze paintings over an "Oil Spot Black" base glaze, meant to reference the night sky.

All of my "Wall Platters" have flaws, including but not limited to cracks, pitted or bubbled glaze, chipped clay and more. These are natural textures that happen in clay, and part of the art. Please do not buy this art of you are interested only in a clean, non-flawed piece, because the flaws are part of the art, and inherent to this type of clay art. I love the raw nature of the flaws. Some wall platters should be used only as "decorative" art and will be marked as such. Others would work great for a table centerpiece or food-safe serving tray, or hung on a wall. All platters come with a "Monkey Hook" hanging device and hanging instructions.
