These sculpture orbs are priced higher as they are woodfired, which is a lengthy process. The woodfired surface is a huge reason that Joel got into pottery. The process often involves a community of potters working for 3-6 day long firings.  Wood is stoked into the kiln and combusts into flame, ashes and coals, which consumes the pottery and naturally paints the raw clay surfaces. 

This orb shaped sculpture is inspired by lunar texture and surfaces. 

PLEASE NOTE: This pot has small, circular textures on the side of the glazed surface. They are part of the art. If you don't like them, please don't buy it. They might seem like flaws, but they are not. 

I think of these pots as abstract paintings. Real images of deep space galaxy cloud clusters and nebula inspire my abstract glaze paintings over an "Oil Spot Black" base glaze, meant to reference the night sky.
