These serving bowls are priced higher as they are woodfired, which is a lengthy process. The woodfired surface is a huge reason that Joel got into pottery. The process often involves a community of potters working for 3-6 day long firings. Wood is stoked into the kiln and combusts into flame, ashes and coals, which consumes the pottery and naturally paints the raw clay surfaces.
The intense heat of the fire can cause warping, melting, scorching, and many other interesting things as the clay interacts with the fire. The ash flying through the air inside the wood-burning kiln settles on the red-hot pottery, forming a glass-like glaze as it cools down. These factors all result in pieces which are totally unique from any other.
All of our Stoneware and porcelain pottery is completely non-absorbent. This bowl is 100% dishwasher and food safe.
